Eratosthenes edited.jpg

This image is a close up of the southern portion of the Montes Apennines (the Apennine mountains). It shows an area of the moon’s surface that is approximately 280 miles wide and about 380 miles top to bottom. Mons Wolf, labelled at left is about 10,600 feet in altitude. On the upper right, the sun is partially illuminating the crater Eratosthenes which is about 35 miles wide. The image was taken through an 11 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope using an Orion StarShoot USB Eyepiece II camera.
