Globular star cluster Messier 12 (M12) in the constellation of Ophiuchus

 

Globular star clusters are a favorite target of astro-imagers. They are beautiful islands of stars in the blackness of space. The M12 globular in Ophiuchus (the Serpent Bearer) is about 16,000 light years distant with a magnitude of about +6.7 and a diameter of about 75 light years.
